Our Directors

Director: Chesney Garza

Even while in college, Chesney remained rooted in her Galveston community. She coached cheer for the Gulf Coast Premier Football League, stage managed at Island East End Theatre Company (Island ETC), and taught dance to local students. These experiences not only deepened her skills as an educator but also reinforced her love for giving back to the community that raised her.

Today, Chesney proudly serves as the Tornette Director and Head of the Fine Arts Dance Department at Ball High School. She also contributes to the Theatre Arts Department, particularly in the annual “All District Musical,” one of her favorite traditions. The 2025–2026 school year marks her sixth year of teaching and her sixth year leading the Tornettes, a role that allows her to carry forward the traditions she once lived as a student while shaping the next generation of leaders and performers.

Beyond her career, Chesney’s greatest joy is her family. Her daughter, Kaia, is the heart of her world and a daily reminder of the importance of love, tradition, and community. Just as Chesney honors the legacy of Ball High and the Tornettes, she is committed to passing down those same values to Kaia—ensuring that family, pride, and tradition remain at the center of everything she does.

Assistant Director: Camry Gipson

Chesney Garza has dedicated her life to dance, education, and her community. A proud graduate of Ball High School and a former four-year Tornette, Chesney served as Social Officer Vice President, Junior Lieutenant, and Colonel, experiences that shaped both her leadership and her deep connection to Galveston traditions. She began her dance training at the age of two and never looked back, pursuing her passion through every stage of her education.
